Design Review Key to Successful Planning Application

The RIBA South West Regional Office has reported in its May monthly newsletter that positive design review feedback has lead to a Planning Inspectors support for a housing scheme in Dorset:
"Morgan Carey Architects have won planning permission for 35 houses in the centre of Charlton Marshall, Dorset following a supportive design review.
The scheme was approved on appeal following a refusal by North Dorset District Council. The Inspector quoted the South West Design Review Panel’s guidance supporting the design and layout and the careful analytical approach taken. He agreed with the Panel that the proposal ‘would result in an attractive place within the village’.
Paul Harrington of Morgan Carey says the opportunity to discuss the proposals with a mix of respected professionals was welcomed:
‘Constructive feedback enabled us to modify the proposals and also convince us that our analysis and assessment of the site were thorough’.
He continued:
‘I’m certain that their guidance and comments helped our case at appeal and, more importantly, it helped us to gain the trust of our client by reassuring them that others believed that the scheme was on the right track!’. "
